WhatsApp is currently testing the possibility of using up to 4 instances of WhatsApp on devices other than your smartphone, without requiring your smartphone to be on and connected to the internet. However, beta testers realize a very annoying limitation: they are isolated from the rest of the WhatsApp community during the testing phase.
As you know, WhatsApp is preparing the arrival of a novelty eagerly awaited by users: the possibility of launch multiple competing instances of WhatsApp on other devices, without requiring connection to the smartphone. It is already possible to open WhatsApp on other devices such as the PC.
More you need to scan a QR Code with your smartphone, and the latter must remain switched on and connected to the internet for the application to work. In the near future it will be possible to test this new connection mode on four competing devices in addition to your smartphone.
WhatsApp's next beta will have annoying limitations
The functionality has already been spotted in the source code of the last beta and Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the upcoming arrival of the feature. The public beta is about to begin. But there is already some info that should cool some of the beta candidates.
Indeed, according to WABetaInfo which takes a capture of the application, “You cannot send messages or make calls from the web, desktop app or Portal to users who have an outdated version of WhatsApp on their phone”.
In other words we understand that the first testers of the feature will be isolated from the rest of the WhatsApp community pending official deployment. We also learn that the functionality will be restricted to the web version, the desktop application and Portal. which seems to exclude adding other Android or iOS smartphones at first.
Although one wonders what really prevents the user from using WhatsApp Web instead of the iOS or Android app. Anyway, the beta is coming in two months. What do you think of this feature? Are you looking forward to testing it? Share your feedback in the comments to this article.
