WhatsApp has decided to modernize in 2021. After multi-device support, they are testing a function to transfer their chat history from iPhone to Android.
Switching from Android to iOS and from iOS to Android is getting easier and easier. WhatsApp is playing along, but it's still complicated to transfer chat history from one smartphone platform to another. WhatsApp now wants to make the switch from iOS to Android easier.
If you have read our guide “How to transfer data from iPhone to Android”, you know there is a method to transfer WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android. But it's not easy, you have to transfer the discussions one by one. Why ? Because your WhatsApp data is stored on Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iPhone). It makes it very easy to transfer from iPhone to iPhone or Android to Android.
A data transfer function will be proposed
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp plans to officially support both directions of transfer, although the beta versions only speak of iOS to Android for now. Indeed, the function appeared in test versions of WhatsApp. You can find screenshots in the tweet below.
Thank you @xdadevelopers for your recent discovery about the “Switch to Android” app, to migrate WhatsApp chat history from iOS to Android. 🤩
These screenshots show how the process works. This feature is under development and it will be available in a future update. https://t.co/FmZbXi33L2 pic.twitter.com/w7GiCUHSuS

However, this transfer does not work wirelessly or through a cloud service. But iPhone and Android smartphone need to be connected to each other via USB to Lightning cable while transferring. The transfer can then be initiated on the iPhone and started using a QR code which is scanned with the Android smartphone. Also, the iPhone must remain unlocked during the entire transfer, otherwise it will fail.
You should know that your history can weigh several GB of data, with videos and photos, so it's not that simple. Even in 2021.
Multi-device support is coming
Over the next two months, WhatsApp will also benefit multi-device support. So you can tchater on several devices without the main device with the stored phone number, usually the smartphone, does not have to be online. This restriction currently applies to using WhatsApp on a PC. With multi-device support, WhatsApp can be used on PC, tablet and other devices without an active smartphone, and all chats can be synchronized.
