OnePlus Nord CE official: everything you need to know
From OnePlus North CE is the latest smartphone from the Chinese company and a lot cheaper than the OnePlus 9 (Pro) from early this year. The CE stands for ‘Core Edition' and it means that OnePlus has taken last year's original Nord, has simplified it a bit but still ensures that you get enough value for your money.
The new device has a suggested retail price of 299 euro and is on june 21 available in the Netherlands. The entry-level model has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. A version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage will also appear 329 euro. The most expensive variant has no less than 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space and costs 399 euro. The Nord CE will soon be for sale via the official website of OnePlus, Coolblue and Belsimpel.
90Hz screen and fast charging
The OnePlus Nord CE has excellent specifications and, for example, has a 90Hz AMOLED screen of 6.43 inches. Because the display is refreshed 90 times (instead of 60) per second, animations are much smoother and the smartphone feels faster.
The screen has thin bezels, fills almost the entire front and the top left has a small hole for the 16 megapixel selfie camera. The housing is made of plastic, but with a weight of 170 grams it is remarkably light. This makes it easier to hold it with one hand. The device is also relatively thin at 7.9 millimeters.
With a capacity of 4500 mAh, the battery is larger than that of the OnePlus North (4115 mAh) from last year. Charging is very fast thanks to the Warp Charge 30T Plus technology. If you put the Nord CE on the charger for half an hour, the battery will be 70 percent full again.
That is enough to get through (almost) a whole day. A full charge to 100 percent takes about an hour and the required fast charger is included. Unlocking is done with the fingerprint scanner under the screen, although facial recognition is also available.
Fast processor and cameras
Under the hood of the OnePlus Nord CE is a Snapdragon 750G processor, which we know from, for example, the Samsung Galaxy A52. The chip is helped by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and has 5G support. The new mobile network is also available in the Netherlands, but is currently not faster than 4G. However, that will change next year.
OnePlus has equipped the Nord CE with three cameras on the back. It is a 64 megapixel main camera, which is also on the OnePlus Nord N10 5G sitting. Also present is an 8 megapixel wide-angle lens for extra wide photos. The third ‘camera' is a 2 megapixel monochrome lens. You use this to put filters over your shots while shooting. For example, you can take a black and white photo. Furthermore, the Nord CE is equipped with a night mode for better images in the dark.
Three years of updates
The OnePlus Nord CE runs on Android 11 with the manufacturer's OxygenOS software over it. OnePlus promises that the Nord CE will get two major Android versions upgrades: to Android 12 and 13. Security patches, which help to fix vulnerabilities and other issues in Android, appear for three years and are released every other month.
This makes the update policy just as good as with the pricey OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. The Chinese manufacturer often rolls out new Android versions to its more expensive devices first, which means that the Nord CE will probably have to wait longer for Android 12 and 13 as soon as these software updates are available.
