During California Streaming Apple announced that the new iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will be equipped with a lot of new camera functionalities. Very nice, but what it didn't tell you is that you don't get access to all those functionalities.
The new functionality is not one that will take a while. It will be available at the launch of the iPhone 13 Pro, but will not be supported on every available model. Do you still get it?
New feature not for all iPhone 13 Pro models
With the new iPhone 13 Pro it is possible to shoot videos in the 4K ProRes format. This not only takes the images to a higher level, but also makes them easier to edit. Very nice of course, but you can only use it if you choose the right Pro or Pro Max.
For example, the functionality can only be used on iPhone 13 Pro models with 256GB or higher. So when you choose to take the entry-level model, you have to take into account that you misunderstand. At least, you do get the ProRes functionality, but shoot the images at maximum in 1080p.
In order to be able to use the Pro fully as it is presented, you will not have lost a minimum of €1159, but a minimum of €1279. For the Pro Max, that price goes from €1259 to €1379.
What do they have to offer?
It is indeed a ridiculous decision, but Apple offers the consumer who wants to go for the entry-level model a number of other improvements. For example, the smartphones have a smaller notch, a higher refresh rate and a more economical battery.
